250 years ago we fought a war to free ourselves from the economic and social stranglehold of the ruling class of the British Empire. They wanted control of our economy, using cheap labor (at that time, slavery) in order to sell them cheap cotton for their northern England cotton weaving mills.
Once we became a nation with a constitution, it took from 1784 until 1865 to complete the job of ending the horror of slavery and its cheap labor economy. Lincoln was killed for it, and 620,000 Americans died for it.
From 1865 until World War 1, we avoided the shackles of British Imperialism. Then, with World War 1, our young people became their army on demand, in so many wars, until now. Now our armed forces protect our interests, like ending terrorism and the terror regime of Iran, or the transport of drugs from Venezuela to the US.
British companies controlled Iran's oil from 1908 until the Shah ended their control in 1973. The Shah was overthrown by the terrorist regime in 1979. Since then, British interestes have managed oil movement, through investment, political pressure, insurance, and shipping, for both countries.
Resolving corruption in various countries, could involve a shift in a century+ long British business model, that the US at times in the past may have been involved in.
It is deeply unfortunate for the citizens of Iran and Venezuela, and other countries, that they had leaders who covinced them that crime and decline were inevitable and that they should just accept a socialist style government that would take care of them. Those leaders not only did not take care of their citizens, they either abused them or allowed for them to be abused.
What was Venezuelan oil used for before the capture of Maduro? Not for improving the lives of Venezuelans. The videos of utter joy coming out of Venezuela have been a joy to see.
When I was young, everyone knew that Venezuela was the richest and most modern country in South America. The people of Venezuela actually voted for a far left socialist government, which, like all socialist governments, turned against its own people, punishing dissent, and rewarding the friends of the elites.
What has Iranian oil been used for? Not for improving the lives of Iranians. The videos of utter determination to be free, coming out of Iran and from those who have escaped, have been difficult to watch, but I am no longer a person who looks away. I remember when Iran was a free and prosperous country and I support the efforts of the Persian people of Iran to be free.
I never want to see the US fall like Iran and Venezuela did.
There's this thing about wealthy countries. Outside forces want to destabilize and loot them.
40% of world's "dirty money" has a relation to London and British Virgin Islands banks (Cayman).
There are numerous Guardian UK articles on the topic.
